12A and 80G Registration for NGOs in Hyderabad

Registering a trust, society or Section 8 company is only the first step. To keep its income tax-free and to let donors claim a tax deduction, an NGO needs registration with the Income Tax Department. These registrations are widely known as 12A (or 12AB) and 80G registration. From 1 April 2026 they are governed by the corresponding provisions of the Income-tax Act, 2025, but the purpose remains the same.

What Each Registration Does

  • 12A / 12AB registration: allows the NGO to claim exemption on its income, provided it is applied to its charitable or religious objects and other conditions are met.
  • 80G approval: allows donors to claim a deduction for donations made to the NGO, which makes it much easier to raise funds.

How Registration Works

  1. Provisional registration: newly formed NGOs usually start with provisional registration, granted for a limited period.
  2. Regular registration: before the provisional period ends, or within the time allowed after activities begin, the NGO applies for regular registration.
  3. Renewal: regular registration is granted for a fixed period and must be renewed on time.

Missing a deadline can lead to loss of exemption, so we track every due date for you.
